A former bathroom in Crouch End N8 had become a bedroom, but its pull-cord light switch remained. Bluerock Electrical installed a conventional wall-mounted metal switch to suit the room’s new use.
Location: Crouch End, North London N8
Work: Cable routing, 35mm back box and metal wall-switch installation
Safety check: Switch earth connection tested
The customer’s room had changed from a bathroom to a bedroom. Its original pull-cord lighting control no longer suited the space, so they wanted a regular wall switch instead.
We covered the room and furniture with protective sheets before starting work. To route the cables to the new switch position, we lifted floorboards in the room above and ran the cables through.
A 35mm back box provided the space needed for the slimline metal fitting. We installed the wall switch and checked its position with a spirit level, as shown in the project photographs.
After fitting the switch, we tested it to ensure it was earthed. This was a particular focus because the new fitting had a metal faceplate.
The bedroom now had a conventional wall-mounted switch in place of the former bathroom pull cord, with new cabling to its position and its earth connection checked.
The photos document the electrical installation; plaster around the fitting was still exposed at the time they were taken.
