Consumer Units used to be
called fuse boards
but as the modern ones contain miniature circuit breakers not fuses,
the name has changed to CU for short. So now you know!
Changing your fuse board to a 17th Editions BS7671 CU can make a
massive difference to the safety and the functionality of the
electrical installation.
Modern CU’s contain RCD’s (Residual Current
Device), and these give far greater protection from electrical shock.
This is one of the key improvements in modern fuse boards. Also, it is
much easier to re-set and RCD or MCB than it is to change a fuse wire.
When changing the C.U it is important to test the entire installation
to make sure that there are no major or dangerous deviations from the
regulations. We always try to include any immediate repairs so that
when we have finished you get a clean bill of health in the form of an
installation certificate. If there are repairs we cannot include within
the price we discuss it with the customer and agree a figure to
complete.
